As I wrote in the last message, people in the Old Testament were not generally indwelled by the Holy Spirit. But, in some cases, God put His Spirit in a person for a special purpose.
Exodus 31: 1-6: Read these verses before reading what I am writing.
The Lord called a man named Bezaleel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. (Jesus would come through the tribe of Judah.) And the Lord said that He had filled Bezaleel with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to [make things for the tabernacle.] (I daily ask our Father for these very things.)
There is a message here. God doesn’t ask us to do anything that He hasn’t already equipped and prepared us for.
And, as we read on in Chapter 31, we see that God establishes a covenant between Himself and Israel. Verse 16: "Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations for a pepetual covenant." And today’s Jews do keep the sabbath.
But this causes quite a bit of confusion in today’s churches. Some say that Saturday is the true sabbath. Some worship the Lord on Sunday because that is the day of the week when Jesus rose from the grave. In truth, the sabbath was a covenant between God and the Israelites. Covenants in the Old Testament were completed by Jesus when He did the work of the last sacrifice. Jesus is now our covering. He is our Intercessor – our Priest. Christians today are not under the covenant of the Old Testament. Those who have been born again in Jesus are dead to the old law. We are no longer bound by it. So, we worship our Savior, Jesus, on the day He rose from death to life by the power of God.
Don’t let people confuse you by their misunderstandings. Strife comes from mininterpreting the Word. Study to show yourselves approved, a workman who needs not be ashamed.
